priorities all messed up
I don't care what you would do if you caught bin laden. What would you do to catch bin laden?

I've tried twice to watch Ugly Betty but I just don't get it. What's the appeal?

wrong for three years?
Nbh came to me with an interesting theory: It's Otto who is the alpha male, not Raj.
I think he's right.
All these years we've assumed Raj is the alpha male. Well, when they returned from the hospital, we think Raj sensed that Otto was weaker and as such was hissing and being aggressive to try to take over. But now that Otto is feeling better? It's Otto that is hissing as Raj sneaks by with his tail and head low. Otto is definitely the aggressor and winning now. Take over did not work, Raj.
Fascintating.

can't win for losing
Recovery from surgery is going great. I go back to work tomorrow, albeit working from home. The kitties are now home and we'll never know for sure if they were truly poisoned or not (i wonder if they have an immunity to iocane powder? ;-), but we needed to go follow through with what the vet and poison control recommended, just in case.
On the other hand.
I just got a call from my sister and my mother is in the hospital. They think that she may have an arterial blockage. They don't think it's a heart attack, but just signs of a blockage and/or angina. Not sure what this all means. They don't know enough yet. Anyway, about 2a.m. PST mom and dad went to the hospital as mom was feeling tingling in her left fingers and toes, her lower jaw hurt and she was having problems breathing. They didn't want to call me when they went to the hospital because they don't want to stress me out during my recovery until they know for sure. I chastised them that I'm fine, they shouldn't hold back on me and let me know earlier this morning. Some people's parents. Yeesh. Anyway, they sound good and the doctors aren't rushing around freaking out. She sounded good. Dad sounds good. Anyway, still no true idea of what's going on yet and then what will be done about it, but.....I need this like I need another hole in my head.
Life is never boring, eh?

helping a friend and get some art too
My friend Terry is looking to raise some money so that he can send photos to a showing in Ottawa. The deal is, "I'm pointing up that one can buy unframed prints for $25 US. That's the optimal print, on a an 8x10 sheet, archival. Shipping included. Larger prints can be made, up to sheet sizes of 13x19, though those will cost a little more (in the $50-75 range depending on size)."
We will be purchasing at least one print. I've loved this one since he first posted it. As you can see, he's very talented.
So, if you like something maybe you can see your way to getting a print.....or two....

warning: lilies are toxic to cats
We did not know that one of THE MOST toxic things for a cat is a Lily. Like, they go into kidney failure within a week and then die.
My well meaning co-workers sent a flower basket. It contained lily's but we didn't know they're toxic. Well, thank god that the kitties had their annual physical today. And thank god that Raj had put his nose so far up into the orange day lillies that the pollen dyed his face orange (seriously, it was orange even after washing it off) so that we mentioned this to the vet...and well, that's where we're at right now.
We have NO idea if Otto was in the flowers or not. But they lick each other's faces a lot (including on the way to the vet this morning), etc. So at this point we have to deal with the cats being in the vet hospital for the next 48 hours getting IV fluids and fed charcoal. They are fairly certain we caught it early enough as the cats are showing no symptoms.
*sigh*

WALL-E is the present......
While watching the opening scenes of WALL-E, the camera pans to show the earth covered in space debris. I realized that I had seen a picture like that before, but not in a movie. I posted a link to show space debris back in April. Pixar could have saved some money and time using the pictures from the ESA......gee....

amusing post-op story
So we're in the recovery room and the doctor is showing me pics of my before and after of my left ovary and uterus (in color...man, love technology...my innards are pretty cool looking). Nbh and I are asking questions and the doc says, "Yeah, as you can see your left ovary is almost the size of your uterus! It was big!" and nbh says, "Well, the camera does add 10 lbs." OMG, it hurt when I laughed. But that joke kept me in good spirits for the rest of the day.
I seem to be healing well. *knock on wood* Provided the pathology reports come back and are all good. That's my only stress at this point. I've reached a point where I'm up and about in the house, walking around the dining room table when I go from the downstairs bathroom back to the couch. I'm off the percocet and just on ibuprofen. I'm feeling good, but I'm making sure I don't lull myself into a false sense of "back to 100%". I've got a whole week off from work, I'm going to make the best of it. :-) Although I may go stir crazy. Soon.
Update: I should probably be a little clearer that the tumor/cyst made my ovary the size of a baseball.....
