frequent fliers
I know you've probably already thought about this if you have to travel by air during this time, but, in case you haven't, I have some advice. If you check _anything_ electronic in checked baggage you should make sure there's a record of the serial number and description (e.g. Macintosh 12" powerbook) filed with the airline upon check-in. Or something that is on record you've checked this equipment in. Heck, I'd probably want the serial number, description and _which bag_ (bar code on the sticker) it was in recorded officially. Getting laptops or other high price items stolen sucks. Trying to get them replaced and paid for by the airline sucks even more.
We leave in 8 days for Los Angeles. This should be interesting if things have not changed by then. Especially travelling with a CPAP device (Must investigate cushioning options for device...already have this kind of stuff for laptop...hmm...). On the plus side, we don't have to deal with overcrowded overhead bins.
p.s. if you can afford it, freakin' send it fedex insured

Hey CF, I guess you've flown with the CPAP before for business. Do you need a doctor's note or something? My MIL has some kind of form from her doctor, I think, because she has to travel with supplies for testing her blood sugar.
Safe travels!

Donna - Yeah, I've traveled a few times with it. I don't need a doctor's note. If anyone gives me trouble I just start quoting that per the FAA this is considered an exception, blah blah....fortunately, nobody has said anything and seem educated on the subject.
I HAVE been thinking that I should print out what it says on the FAA site just in case and include it in the bag for the CPAP. What I'm wondering with this heightened security: Will I really have to check my CPAP with the luggage? It's an expensive machine, dudes!
