crash after the sugar rush
So, the Dems did very well. Now what?
It's weird living in a state with blue laws. I'd never heard of such a thing until I moved here. MA voted against allowing grocery stores to sell wine. Now, there _are_ some grocery stores that can sell wine. For example, Trader Joe's in Framingham. I asked them the other day why they can sell wine and beer. Turns out that when you open a new grocery chain in the state, three of the stores are allowed to sell wine and beer. Framingham is one of the first three. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. It just seems odd to me that people would be against this kind of thing. I guess if you're used to the Puritan way it's hard to change. I wasn't that passionate about getting it passed, anyway. While it's annoying to go to a second store in order to get wine for dinner, it's not impossible. C'est le vie.

Clue-ments:
That's a great loophole. Why don't they just open a bunch of 3 store chains. Trader Moes. Trader Schmoes. Trader Toes.

I was against it. Some of my favorite liquor stores are right next to grocery stores (as a side-effect of this old blue law) and for them to keep being able to provide the higher end wines, they will need to make some money on the lower end stuff too. But, people would just pick that up at the grocery. Some of these nice places would go out of business. Then I'd have to buy crappy wine at slop n shop. I don't want to take my chances with that.
And since these liquor stores have all set themselves up next door to grocery stores, it is really not an inconvienience.
Now, I'd be in favor of never having had these laws to begin with so that the market could have sorted itself out naturally.
I didn't buy into the whole argument that there would be more drunk drivers. That's just stupid.

Kristin,
I might have been opposed had I been in your situation. The problem is that the Liquor Stors that I go to are not next to grocry stores, so it has to be 2 trips which is a hugh PITA.
In general I am opposed to any form of Blue Laws. Just let us do what we want as long as no one else is effected.
