new mac

So after waiting to see what would be announced yesterday and seeing that there was no new computer stuff announced, we have ordered my white macbook. It should arrive Friday. I can't wait! Yay!

My sister will be getting my 12" powerbook as a late xmas gift.

Re: the iPhone. I like the way it looks. I like the integrated functionality. We don't have Cingular and I'm not sure the iPhone is enough to make me switch (and we have to wait for quite awhile to do so anyway cause we just re-upped our contract) and I would have to try out the "keyboard". By far I think that the blackberry keyboard is the best. I've tried out various Treo keyboards and I find them very hard to use. The iPhone would have to really impress me in this area to make me want to switch. I'm trying hard not to fall into Steve's reality distortion field.

Clue-ments:

Nice! Have a great weekend! (I guess we all know what you'll be doing...! :-)

Re: iPhone (or whatever Apple sorts out with Cisco). For the first time I'm vaguely interested in an Apple product. I recently got the new SonyEricsson P990i (the first unit was faulty and had to be replaced) and I must say I'm less impressed than I expected.

The P990i is not as "complete" as my old Ericsson R380s (the "first" smartphone) and I feel it was rushed to market before the software was ready.

It's too complicated for "ordinary" users to set up properly (the WiFi for example) but at the same time it's too dumbed down for a geek like myself to get to the nitty-gritty details.

The touch-screen is ok but the "keyboard" is difficult to use (I'm getting better though). Other buttons are a pain (in my view) and battery life was definitely measured with all the extras off (Bluetooth, WiFi etc).

In fact it looks like the "power-save" setting for both Bluetooth and WiFi does the exact opposite!

I've never turned on the radio or used the music player (I've got a PROPER gadget for that in my iRiver). The FM receiver uses the "hands-free" as an areal but since I use a Bluetooth headset it doesn't work...

One REALLY nice feature though is the "Flight mode" - which is "what it says on the tin" - all radio emissions are turned off but you can still use the PDA and multimedia-stuff.

Thoranin - And the iPhone would work on your cellular backbone since it's GSM. Our cell phone provider does not have GSM. Which can be a rate limiting factor if you travel outside the US. Because my work blackberry has GSM, I don't really need it on a personal phone right now, cause I can always use the blackberry. Not that I've traveled outside the US recently. Waaah. Must fix that. Maybe a little trip to Iceland again...;-)
