i am legend

Wow. Rawk.

Loved it. Totally scared the shit out of me. Which is exactly what I wanted from this movie. Why? Well, click on the extended entry if you're curious for a little more.....

Chris asked me, "Well, is it like the book?"

Yes ...but not the way most people think. It isn't superficially like the book, but it's LIKE the book. I already knew that the scene was changed from L.A. to NYC. The "creatures" were more sentient in the book. Etc. The thing is, that's not why one reads Richard Matheson stories (In case you didn't know, I'm a big Richard Matheson fan. Senior, not junior, although junior has written some great horror also).

What the movie did like the book was the paranoia. The insanity of Robert Neville. The constant schedule to Neville's day to ensure that he's protected at night from the monsters and/or his own insanity (or does it contribute to the insanity?). Day in. Day out. The scared.the.shit.out.of.me feeling.

Rawk.

Clue-ments:

I'll have to get some of his books from the library. I love 'scare the shit out of me' books. I haven't read any of his... didn't know the movie was based on a book (it's too soon to read that one - I'm still scared).

Have you ever seen "the Omega Man" with Chuck Heston? Or the one before that, I am not sure what it is called, with Vincent Price?

I saw the movie too. While I liked it, some of the people I was with did not really like it as much as they thought they word (or as much as "Enchanted", which I highly recommend, BTW).

The thing I pointed out, that one should be pondering in a movie like this which has little dialog and action, was Neville's state of mind -- he was almost convinced he was alone. Was this how he was before the virus or did he loose hope? Was his isolation self inflicted? Even he said mathematically there should be survivors but he told the woman in the next breath that everyone was dead.

No need to be mean because...no matter where you go, there you are.

I remember liking "Omega Man" when I saw it years ago. And to me it should always be paired with "Soylent Green". I must have seen them around the same time.

Haven't see "I Am Legend" yet, but it sounds good.

We have pondered going to see IAL based on the sheer number of favorable reviews, but we have to wait until I'm actually in the mood for a horror/scary movie. That doesn't happen too often, so we may not get to it. CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR was excellent, tho.

Ulrika - I've got Charlie Wilson's War on my list of movies to see. Glad to hear a good recommendation!
