that's a lot of crap in LEO and GEO

Check out the great pictures that tell a story. It's a mess up there.

"Today, it is estimated that only 800 satellites are operational - roughly 45 percent of these are both in LEO and GEO. Space debris comprise the ever-increasing amount of inactive space hardware in orbit around the Earth as well as fragments of spacecraft that have broken up, exploded or otherwise become abandoned."

Clue-ments:

Yeah... I once got into a big argument with someone at my previous company because they wanted the moon built up so that when the Earth is destroyed by humans, we'd be able to move there and I was like "why, so humans can destroy space too?" and then tried to tell her about all the crap and garbage we have already out into space. It didn't go well.

kirstin - as much as i want to go to space, explore strange new worlds, yadda, yadda....I do think that sustainability and not taking our crap with us is something that should be considered into designs off planet. Transport, colonies, etc.
