under construction

Or couldn't you tell? I've got to finish some homework. This may be like this until tomorrow evening.

Good news though: I can terminate my die.earthlink.die account. First thing tomorrow morning. Got something to look forward to.

almost there

Well folks, the DNS changes have been made. My site may be flakey for the next 24-48 hours as the DNS settings to my new ISP propagate throughout the net. Yay.

survivor last night

In case people didn't get a chance to watch it yet...I'll put my remarks in an extended entry.

All right. This is what survivor is about. Voting out the weakest person in the tribe. Polly was stupid. Polly was physically weak. Yeah, culling the herd.

Otherwise, does this season seem kind of meh to you?

PSA

The researchers defined whining as a "long or repeated expression of discontent not necessarily intended to change or improve the unsatisfactory situation." Complaining is an emotional release that can build rapport.

Note to any current or future co-workers reading this: Please do not whine to or at me. It will not build rapport with me. I don't care what the researchers say. Not that I'm unsympathetic. I just have a low threshold and unless we're really good friends, I don't want to hear it.

I decided to go to Mary Chung's for dinner tonight instead of driving through rush hour traffic. As usual, the food was excellent and I still have leftovers (mm...shuan la chow show). As I was walking down Mass Ave. to get to my car I was asked if I wanted to have Jesus save my soul by one of those sandwich-board, leaflet handout kind of guys. There were two of them and they actually looked respectable. I did what most people do, make no eye contact and shake my head while saying no as I walked quickly by. Sometimes I just look them straight in the eye and say no very loudly. But I wasn't in the mood. Sides, consistency is not my bag.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is: does anyone actually ever take these guys up on their message and have their lives changed forever because of a contact they made on a street corner (that wasn't their drug dealer)?

I just don't see that it's worth the effort.

boring post

I finished the first day of our two-day off-site meeting successfully. But, MAN, there are some bad presentors on this planet. At one point I thought I was going to stick a pen in my eye cause it would be less painful. Anyway, i'm going to brag and then spend time with the non-blogging husband before bedtime.

I GOT THE VICE PRESIDENT'S AWARD. Certificate and money are involved. There were only 3 given out of 100 employees. *happy dance*

you do not love me if you have an earthlink account

If you have an earthlink account and are not in the process of cancelling it, you obviously do not love me. *sniff*

Domain News: Earthlink freakin' *denied* my domain transfer request. WHAT? I didn't know they could do that. I'm in a chat support window with Earthlink right now.

First, they have an ancient module of Perl on their servers so I can't use MT 3.11. Now, they freakin' refuse my domain transfer.

Nice. Real nice.

die.earthlink.die

UPDATE: Now I have to talk to Network Solutions. Oh joy.

why was i asked by my co-workers if i had a PS2?

I called summer blues yesterday at work.

"Hello, this is Kristen."

"It's Jenn. I need to ask a weird favor."

"Okay..."

"Can I borrow your PS2 for work next week?"

"Yes."

"Do you want to know why?"

"No."

"I have to tell you why. They're having this two day offsite meeting and the first night they're going to setup dance, dance revolution."

*much laughter by both of us*

Yes, folks. My co-workers will be treated to free alcohol, dinner, more free alcohol and then a chance to make an ass of themselves playing a dance video game.

Fortunately, I'll need to leave early in order to catch the 8:20 train home.

things i hope i don't regret

Or: nbh better want to do this soon.

Well, Mark had to *brag* to the whole world about his zero-g trip. So, i've decided not to be jealous alone. Here's an article about him in a local San Diego web/newspaper:
Mark sucks. Now we can all be jealous.

oh and,

My domain move from die.earthlink.die should occur sometime in the next week. yay. I can't wait to upgrade MT and get my sidebar up again.

i hope i can sleep tonight

Cause tomorrow, at work, things are gonna suck ALL DAY. But, the evening will be lovely cause it's Survivor night and the Thomas's are coming over!

how much stupidity can i find in one article?

You've gotta be kidding me.

Marshall, 26, told officers he was importing the munitions, which he believed to be inert, for use in DynCorp training exercises, and Port Authority police released him, federal officials said.

Where does one begin? Read the whole article, folks.

So, we can arrest someone who "may have ties to terrorist groups", hold them indefinitely, without lawyer representation, but a guy who freakin' brings in munitions to the country is released?

Whaaa?

hello kitty turns 30

Come up with the grand prize winning haiku and you could go to L.A. to attend the Hello Kitty 30th Anniversary celebration! (I thought about writing a cute haiku, but fuck it, I'm saving that creativity for this contest!)

zero-g

When I was younger (like when I was living in L.A.), one of my favorite panels at a con was the midnight panel "Sex in Zero G", usually hosted by people like G. Harry Stine (he was a great guy). This panel was usually done at cons in Phoenix. Many ideas involved bungee cords - heh. Harry's main thoughts on sex in zero-g were that you needed 3 people and it would be a lot like dolphins mating...

Enough memories! It's only 30 seconds of zero-g, so it's not enough time to appreciate sex in zero-g...but damn, I'm jealous of Xeni at boing boing. He's going on a zero-g flight. Hmm...$3,000....hmm...

I would definitely, most likely, almost certainly, vomit. For my 21st birthday, my boyfriend purchased an hour of aerobatic flying. I had to wear a parachute (heh...I was like, "Who's wearing that?" "You" "Oh"). Anyway, I managed to experience a hammerhead (can you say stall?) and loops, etc. But just as we touched down, I grabbed the bag and puked. Oh well.

Talked with a longtime friend, Mark, this weekend. He's saving vacation time to go spend 3 weeks in Russia and ride in their "vomit comet" and go to Star City. Pretty damn cool. Okay, jealousy has increased significantly now. Grrr.

I need to talk about something else. Okay. When I arrived at South Station this morning, there was a cool 3-car old-fashioned train. It looked very nice inside, like something out of Wild, Wild West. Except, I doubt with all of the hidden cabinets, etc. All I could think was, "Man, the commuter rail should look like that!"

Ive started reading Quicksilver finally. I like it so far. I wonder if Isaac Newton really stuck a needle in his eye in order to prove color is a result of pressure on the eye..Anyone know?

things that irritated me this week

getting sick and missing worldcon and my friends there

earthlink (die. earthlink. die) and the mt install fiasco because of die. earthlink. die.

work

"If we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again," Mr Cheney told in a rally in Iowa.

Bush was suspended from flying for the Texas air national guard

Dunkin Donuts messing up my coffee they put hazelnut in instead of French vanilla

people parked four slots away from the grocery cart return area who left their cart in their slot instead of putting it away. lazy asses.

enough of that.

hey, has anyone else been watching Denis Learys show Rescue Me? Im digging it.

and finally, my psychiatrist and I had a little chat this week and were going to change the meds. Take me off of one of the drugs Im taking, Effexor. Itll take 3 months for me to get completely off it as we want to take it slowly as I drop down on dosages. Ive been having some adverse events that are making my life stressful, so were gonna try this out.

i own something that is a collectors item???

So, for my 17th birthday, my sister bought me a Lego phone. I still own it. I used it up until we got rid of our landline a year ago. It was up in our bedroom. I had a spaceman attached to it and other building pieces. It has a side drawer that would hold lego pieces so you could have a number of choices to put on it.

Well, according to this (seen on BoingBoing), they're going for $135. Hmm.....

music

This is probably one of the best music reviews I've ever read. I'll be logging into iTunes this evening...(although, after an evening of drinking that may not be the wisest thing for me to do.....maybe the non-blogging husband should order it and I'll just copy to my iPod...)

good news

I was able to put in the request to transfer my domain last night! Yay!

I don't know when things will start to go wacky as the dns changes happen, so expect some downtime folks, but soon I'll be back in business!

And yes, I did modify some of the site colors as you can see...I missed my green...mmmm....green...

Tonight: Drinking with co-workers after work. Much imbibing will be occurring.

domain woes

I can't transfer my domain just yet, because network solutions whois is down. Okay, this'll take about a week, I suspect. I'm not going to import my old entries, or fix the style, look,etc.. And I probably will stop blogging for awhile. Unless this goes on longer than a week. Cheers.

Posted by jennj at 09:41 PM | Comments (5)

can't help myself. must blog.

I just have to share with you all my new favorite people watching experience (yes, I think this trumps the starbucks story). On the T this morning a woman got on at South Station with me and during the ride from there to Kendall Square she continued a conversation with her headphones (not hooked up to anything). Basically, she was having a "teleconference" on the T using her headphones. Complete with pauses and "huh uh"'s and nodding and responding to her imaginary teleconference participants. Brilliant.

kristin rocks

My friend, summer blues, aka Kristin, rocks. She spent a major chunk of her day helping me try to get MT 3.11 working on my server. She managed to get it to work, but...when it came to rebuilding the files, MT choked and that's when we found out my earthlink server provider doesn't have a certain Perl module. She even freakin' hacked a script for me to get this working.

I salute you. :-)

Posted by jennj at 09:12 PM | Comments (0)

paying for my laziness

Earthlink needs to die.

They have an ancient version of Perl without a certain module. Therefore, trying to install MT 3.11 is useless.

Also, the import I tried to do a moment ago didn't work. It aborts after about 200 entries. I've had it. I'm posting this right now. I'm not going to post anything else for a few days while I change to a new domain host. Fucking Earthlink.

you gotta be kidding me

I woke up this morning with a raging headache, stuffy nose, aches. I have a freakin' cold and I'm not going to go to worldcon and infect everyone with it. Not that I feel all that up to going now, anyway. You gotta be kidding me. Who gave this to me?

what kind of burbclave are you?

I've always joked about how Martha, nbh and I live in a burbclave. For those of you who aren't familiar with our house/property layout, I offer a very crude drawing here.

So, I'm wondering: What kind of burbclave are we?

We are all three Macintosh enthusiasts. We drive hybrids. We love cats. We love to read. I'm thinking we're a "5% of the market share why do we torment ourselves?" burbclave.

updating the blog

Classes start on Tuesday, so before I lose all my free time, I'm going to spend time over the next four days upgrading to MT 3.1, installing a comment notification plug-in so that when people respond to your comments you get e-mailed and hopefully find a plug-in for an idea I have....if there isn't one...then I may have to submit a suggestion. But I'm not mentioning it right now.

I'm heading to the WorldCon on Saturday....catch up with people. Various friends were not able to make it, so we do not have any guests staying with us. I've made dinner plans for saturday night already. I may head to the con on Sunday too. Dunno.

Martha's blog is up and running. I've got her using blogger.com, the address is:

Miss Havisham's Attic

I'll add her to my peoples list soon.

helping bring more people into the blogsphere

I'm heading over to Martha's, our neighbor within our little burbclave, to help her setup her first blog. Cool.
