how long is the honeymoon phase in a relationship?
Well, apparently Italian scientists have determined that it's a year.

little irritation
I have a co-worker who frequently starts her e-mail introduction with "Hello Ladies" when she's just e-mailing to a few of us who happen to be women. And this is frequently business related e-mails, not personal "How they hangin'?" e-mails.
This irritates me. I'm not sure why. I think a part of it is that she wouldn't do this if there were men on the e-mail ("Hello Ladies and Gentlemen"), so why bring out the gender intro in only this instance? And it seems very informal for business things. Which is a funny thing for _me_ to say regarding informality in a business setting cause I'm soooo not formal.

switching to livejournal?
I've been thinking about moving to livejournal for quite awhile now. The biggest reason, for me, would be their fabulous commenting functionality with notifications and nesting. Also, no spam. One of the things about movable type is you have to get some plug-ins to help manage spam and you need to be vigilant. There is supposed to be a plug-in that does commenting notifications and a plug-in that will nest comments, also. However, it's just Yet Another Hack I'd have to manage. And I'm lazy.
There are many pros and cons to this proposition and I'd have to have a paid account in order to keep my cluefairy design (free accounts do not allow for customization).
Pros to moving to LJ:
1. No spam
2. Commenting functionality
3. Private posts (although I'm not sure if there's anything I'd post that would be private)
4. Communities
5. Ease of use
Cons:
1. No javascripting, so I'd lose my cute countdown. I love my countdown.
2. No ability to search for specific posts.
3. I've already paid for an MT license and support, now I have to pay for an LJ account also (although, dudes, it's cheap!)
4. Making time to create my style and did I mention I'm lazy?
5. Not as geeky/customizable as I'd probably like
My friends Kristin and jhimm moved from MT over to LJ and they seem happy with it. I just have to commit to purchasing the account in order to play around with customizing and seeing if I'd be happy with it....hmm.
What do you think?

walk the line
I didn't know if I was going to like Walk The Line when we decided to go see it because Harry Potter was sold out (no surprise there). I kinda wanted to see it, had no aversion to seeing it, but wasn't sure I'd like it.
Wow. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible and _sings all of the songs_. He nails Johnny Cash's voice and mannerisms. And Reese Witherspoon does a great job singing also. But hey, it's Reese Witherspoon, and as Donna said, "She can do no wrong in my eyes." Oscar worthy? Probably. You don't have to like Johnny Cash in order to like this drama. It's good. Wow.

re-discovering my music via ipod shuffle mode
“....charlie, we told you so
surely by now you know
when you’re livin’ in the west end
ain’t many dreams come true
yeah, I know, but I had to try
you can crawl around your whole life
or you can learn to fly
and when you’re living here
the ground seems awful near
and sometimes i need a lift to victory...”

f* you, job
Because of you, I did not make it to the gym last night. And if things go badly this afternoon, I wont' make it tonight. F* you, job. F* you.

viewpoint on future of tv
Seen on betnoir's site. Would you pay for your show to be on the air? And stay on...?
All of which leads to an enticing possibility: Let’s say that Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly, wanted to bring the series back to air. (Though “back to air” is a TV phrase now as anachronistically quaint as “switching the dial.”) Let’s say he found a million Firefly fans online—and, trust me, they’re not hiding—who were willing to pay, say, $39.99 each for a sixteen-episode season of Firefly. (Not an unreasonable price, given how many people pay about that amount for full seasons on DVD.) Suddenly, Joss Whedon’s got roughly $40 million to play with—and he doesn’t need a network.

IKEA happiness
"Shouldn't you all be at church?" I said yesterday to non-blogging husband as we walked towards the Disneyland-like switchback queue at the IKEA entrance.
It was around 10:20 when we arrived to the chaos that is the IKEA opening weekend. They had policemen guiding traffic. They had an ambulance standing by.
The line moved fast and after some initial feelings of being crowded as we walked through the first few room layouts it felt like a usual trip to IKEA. We want to replace the rickety table in the kitchen and found two models we like. We need to measure in order to make a final decision.
No Swedish meatballs. After about 2 hours of roaming around, we went home. Definitely not a close drive, but not far enough away to make it prohibitive. I am happy.

okay
Why is it that I have to agree with your opinion in order for you to believe that I understand it? Why does agreement = understanding? Why can't I understand and still disagree? Why don't you believe me when I say, "I understand your point of view and I still disagree with it"?
"You" does not mean the readers of this blog. Well, at least nothing you've said recently prompted this thought.

oy
Do you ever say something, then minutes or hours later realize that you should have said it another way? And then you obsess about it for hours on end for the rest of the day? Me too. Right now. And I said it in front of 200 people. Heh.
Just spent two horrific days at an off-site meeting with our department and the theme was globalization. I think I actually have some humorous things to report, but I need to detox first.

good morning
While walking past Finagle a Bagle in Boston the other day, I noticed a sign in their window. It was calling to the low-carb eater: They'll _scoop out_ the inside of the bagel, cutting the carbs & calories by 25%. So, let me get this straight. I'm going to pay full price in order to eat 25% less bagel. Pass.
We went out last night with some friends to a new restaurant, Vintage. It was pretty good and the wine selection was fab-o. I had skimmed their menu earlier that morning on the web and spied au gratin potatoes. So, I was stoked to try them. I didn't. Why? They put mushrooms in between layers of potatoes. Mushrooms in au gratin potatoes? That just doesn't seem right. It particularly doesn't seem right as I don't like mushrooms. Oh well. Otherwise, I recommend the restaurant.

are men getting shorter?
When it comes to things like sweat and ski pants, I tend to just buy in the mens section. Why? The pant legs are long enough for me. The only place I buy women's pants is online at places like eddie bauer or l.l. bean, cause they have tall sizes. I can't stand high water pants.
Now that it's getting colder out, I need some workout pants (for cheap) to put on after working out at the gym so I don't freeze on the way home. So, I went to Target. I looked at some of the women's stuff (just because I can't help myself, they're so cute!) and the pants weren't too bad in length, but not where I like it. I went to the men's sports department and the lengths _were shorter than the women's_. Huh? I ended up going back over to the women's section and getting a pair there.
But the big bonus? Hello Kitty pajama's. They're pink with glitter. Get thee to Target and purchase some.

i am a 40th level clue fairy
Tomorrow is Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Day. I will be getting a pedicure and manicure in celebration. Actually, I already had plans to get them.
IKEA update: I will not be able to go opening day due to stupid departmental off-site all-day meeting and dinner. Looks like I'll have to brave the store on the weekend. Grumble.

stupid holiday work parties
Dear Company,
Every year, you spend money designing, printing and mailing fancy company holiday party invitations. And every year, we don't go.
Why? Because you charge $40 per couple. Plus the $10 for parking at the MFA. Couldn't you take the money you spend on the fancy invites and make it so that we don't have to pay to attend our own holiday party? Oh, and I'm still irritated that the year you held it in our fancy, new, "green" office building you still charged us.
Kiss my shiny, white bum,
Me

finally. it's here.
Non-blogging husband just saw this and let me know.
Ikea in Stoughton opens on Nov. 9.
Too bad I have an off-site that day, otherwise I'd "work from home". Now, to figure out when to go. That evening? That weekend? Yippee! Nbh is going to have stuff to build....;-)
