he went there
While watching the credits of Narnia, the following conversation took place:
sis: "so, i've got a question. they're all adults and the only humans, so, who are they dating?"
bro-in-law: "well, you know what they say: once you've had horse, you never go back."
nbh: "where do you think centaurs come from?"
all.manner.of.wrong.

We have had a great xmas day today. My favorite gift is from my sister who crocheted me a scarf. It's warm and snuggly and soft and goodness.

crackberry
So, like, I'm getting me the stylin' blackberry that I can use internationally. And I'm already feeling the desire. My brain keeps saying, "Soon, you'll be able to surf the internet on the train to/from work. While in the car when nbh is driving."
And I got jealous today when someone in a meeting forwarded a document to the person on the teleconference cause they didn't have a copy....
This has train wreck written all over it.

there really is a santa claus
My boss just came into my office a few minutes ago. Here's what transpired (names and locations have been changed to protect the innocent):
boss: "Hey, I'm going to make your day, Jenn."
me: "All right! Lay it on me!"
boss: "Fred (my boss's boss) was down in our Omaha office and he heard great things about you! I told him I want names!"
me: "Well?"
boss: "A**hole (yes, the one from the holiday) and Jane!"
me: *blink*
boss: "Can you believe it? A**hole said this. A**hole, jenn. This is _awesome_ news for the future of this project. Keep it up."
me: *blink*
me: "Does this go on my performance appraisal for this calendar year or next?"
both: *laughter*
i.love.my.boss. Boy, have I got a**hole fooled. Which is sooo to my advantage now...muhahahah.

waaahhhh (but not surprising)
Joss Whedon has given up on Firefly. There will be no more.
"In this weeks Entertainment Weekly in the News and Notes section Joss Whedon announced some news: he has given up on the Firefly saga. Despite the film getting "some of the best reviews of the year", since it seems there is not a large enough audience that a studio/corporation belives in, and also since we did get the big movie, he has given up on Firefly. He is making two more films: Wonder Woman, and a thriller for Universal. He will make which ever one gets greenlighted first first."

new holiday!!
Today is "Be an a**hole to Jenn" Day!!
Various activities for the day:
* Send an e-mail to boss complaining that Jenn's not "responsive" to your issues (fortunately, boss already knows that's not true and that this person is just trying to play the blame game. love my boss)
* Lie to Jenn's face that x isn't assigned until initiation visits therefore obstructing the process but then staring dumbfounded when Jenn asks three questions that contradict what you just said and therefore you are caught
* Blame a vendor for a mistake that you did and then subtley try to implicate Jenn in the process
Later today there will be a lynching and charity ball starring the comedy of paris hilton (e.g. torture).
What completely f*ing amazes me is that we're a team. I've got just as much interest in making sure these projects succeed as the a**holes I'm working with, don't they get it??? Jeebus. And those who read this and have worked with me know, I'm _great_ (humble, eh?) at what I do, so you KNOW these guys have got to be twits of the first order.

i'm just sayin'
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
- 4th Amendment to the Constitution
Where's the public outrage? Why isn't anyone upset by this? Off to call my Senator and Representative....
p.s. Can anyone point me to any news stories about reactions from Congresscritters? Thx.

p.s.
I think my favorite part of the day was when Dan and I were stopped on the mountain next to a father who had fallen and his two young (like, 5 and 6) daughters. The older daughter had tears in her eyes and said to him, "Why do you have to be so mean?" and then she turned to her younger sister and led them down the mountain leaving their father behind. You go, girl. (Don't worry, I watched to make sure that they were fine and until their father caught up with them).

tis the season to be skiing
Six inches of snow fell last night on the mountain. 30 degrees out today. Sunny. It was a freaking _great_ day to go ski for the first time this season. My friends Dan and Heather joined me and we went to Mt. Sunapee. We skied all morning, 20 minute lunch break and most of the afternoon. Ahhh... Non-blogging husband is down in NYC attending a Genesis tribute band thing called The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway or something. I'm not a big prog rock kind of gal, but I know he's going to have a great time with his bro at the concert.
I discovered that I need a new pair of thermal underwear cause there's a big hole in the inner lower thigh of the pants....and I need new gloves.
I also used my helmet for the first time ever. I love my helmet. It kept my head toasty warm. All in all, a good day (although, in the afternoon some clouds came in and the wind picked up). Too bad you couldn't make it, mess, I hope you liked us calling you to make sure you were OK and letting you know that the sun was out on the mountain....hehehe

king kong
Click on the extended entry to see what I thought of it.
Spoilers happen.
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
I liked it a lot. Kong is awesome and has a real personality and I cried like a baby at the end. But I knew that was going to happen. The crying part. Cause I'd seen the original and know that he dies. It suffers from some bad editing - as in, there are scenes that could have been shortened and kinda drag. But the rest of it....there were many times where I had the thought, "Only Peter Jackson would think of a stampede of Brontosauri (?) that ends up in a pile of dinosaurs when they (dino) trip over themselves. Or, when Kong throws Ann on his shoulder after he's decided she's OK. Or When Kong fights the three T Rex. Or the scene where Kong slides on the ice in Central Park holding Ann....." Now, when I look at posters of the movie and I see Kong on them, I get sad. *sniff*
Adrien Brody was great in The Pianist, but I'm just not sure I can stand looking at his face for three hours again (well, okay, when I get the DVD for this movie...).....Naomi Watts is an awesome actress.

hey livejournal
One of the cons for me moving over to livejournal is the inability to search my posts. I guess for security reasons, they don't do javascript. Or something. Anyway, why can't you guys (LJ) purchase google search server software stuff (technical term), implement it internally, hook it into LJ functionality and offer it as a feature for paid users? That would rock.

We noticed it when we returned home from breakfast with some friends...hahaha...I especially like the picture of the p*nis. You guys crack me up. Donna and Bob immediately guessed at least Kristin was involved...heh. I thought you'd find that amusing.

the reality show i'd like to be in
I think they should have a reality show where you compete to cast a movie. Wouldn't it be great if you could cast a movie based on one of your favorite books? Or a really good script? Each week you receive a script (a script from the slush pile?) or a book and you cast it. A director, producer and casting director then judge your choices. And then the grand prize is to cast a major motion picture (I suspect they would probably make you a co-casting agent...). Yeah, baby.

should i be worried?
I'm bipolar. This means I have a mental disorder/illness. I don't talk about it much cause with medication and self-awareness I don't need to. I have good days and I have bad ones (Who doesn't?).
I'm wondering if there will eventually be some sort of registry for the mentally ill that I'll be on. And the case of the guy down in Miami _who was bipolar_, where he wasn't compliant with his medication makes me wonder if eventually it'll be a crime if someone who is mentally ill isn't compliant.
Never mind that it's not just mentally ill people who can be non-compliant. It's _anyone taking any medication_. They start feeling better so they think they can stop. Bad decision.
There are many bipolar people out there who are high functioners and don't go on killing sprees or claim to carry a bomb. We exist. Don't forget about us.
So. What's going to happen in the next few days/weeks is a bunch of bipolar "in-depth" segments on the news/frontline/whatever and nobody is going to interview someone like me and it's just going to be all the bad stuff. I hope I'm worried for no good reason (please note that my worry level isn't as high as you may think it is, I'm just bringing this up as a thought that went through my mind this morning).

great. just great.
Sometime yesterday between 10a.m. and 4:15p.m. someone came into my office and stole my palm pilot. Now, the thing that really bothers me, is that yesterday was one of those days where I was not out of my office much. I'm glad I keep my purse locked up. I hated having to call my boss this morning to tell him.
On the other hand, I may get a Crackberry out of this...so that might not be so bad. If I can get the Crackberry with international voice service, I'd be golden. Think good thoughts.

p**n for the blind
I already know from my blind friend Joe that they make a braille version of Pl**boy. I forgot to ask him if it was just the text that was braille. Hmm...how would they handle the pictures? He'll be at our party on Saturday, so I'll ask him then.
I'm reading this article and I'm thinking, man, what would the kind of setups they're asking normal theatres to install look/sound like in a porn theatre? Especially when there's already descriptive media for the blind. Is this an untapped part of the p**n market? Would p**n even work in the descriptive media format? hehe

really.
Is anybody surprised that there's a link between obesity in kids and bake sales? I mean, really, this is just another way of saying overeating (more calories in, than out) contributes to obesity.

waking up psychotic
I'm beginning to believe there are some people who wake up one morning and just decide, "Hey, I'm going to do something so stupid at work it's going to get me fired!"
Many times there is food sitting outside a conference room due to a lunch meeting or other event. A temp the other day went and helped themselves to a cup of coffee from the urn. Everybody knows (and has been told repeatedly) that you don't take food/bevs from these areas until it's really, really obvious the meeting is done with it. Not so in this case. So someone from the meeting confronted the temp and the temp _went off_ on them and did a few other things (like take the "this food is for the meeting" sign back to their cubicle). Now, it's bad enough that the temp did all of this and lost it. It's even worse when it's a senior executive one level removed from the CEO. Result? Fired within 30 minutes.
This reminds me of an incident from my previous company. This guy used the network messaging tool and sen messages to some women in the office, FROM HIS OWN COMPUTER no less, that were sexually explicit. Didn't take me long to find out who it was, yanno? Fired. Did he wake up and say, "Hey, I'm going to sexually harass someone today!"?
Wacky.

out of touch
I've been focused on some soul searching lately (reading, internet surfing, etc.). Have some health issues I'm trying to take care of. Doing stuff IRL. So, like, I've got no idea of what's really happening in the world right now.
I remember the last time I did this tuning out of external factors. I walked into the living room of my friend Jeff & Sue's and saw on the TV screen that there was a police car chasing a white bronco on the L.A. freeway. I turned to Jeff and said, "What's that all about?" He stared at me for a few seconds. He finally said, "You haven't heard about OJ?" "No." "Jenn, where have you been? A _week_ ago OJ Simpson...."
