people are irritating

Sometimes, I just get so irritated at my co-workers. Do things have to be so melodramatic?

"Do you hear the words that are coming out of my mouth?"

go seahawks!

The Seahawks have never been to a Super Bowl. When I lived in Seattle I became a fan and watched them a lot. And every year, the season would start out great, but then they'd gag it by the end. It always made me sad, but hey, it was predictable. If they win tomorrow, they go to the Super Bowl. Good luck guys, I'll be cheering for you!!

iceland rocks!

Iceland the first country to commit to try to abandon gasoline. Cool. If you've never been to Iceland, I highly recommend it. It's beautiful, the people are friendly, and geothermal energy is just plain cool. I just wish that I had been in contact with my old Icelandic friend Thor when we went. Maybe next time we can stay at their guesthouse (b&b)!!

vacation time...boy how i love you

A belief of mine: Never get to a point in vacation time accrual where you _stop_ accruing. Or, frankly, get to a point where your manager warns you about it.

From time to time, I encounter people who work so much they either stop accruing or they've got to immediately take time off, cause _now_ they're suddenly concerned about their vacation time. Yeah.

So, where do you stand on this subject?

for the most part, i really enjoy working with the folks at work

Co-Worker (CW): "We will make a place for you down here in our kingdom, Jenn"
Me: "Wow, I get to be a minion in your world?"
CW: "You'll have to earn the right to be a minion"
Me: "There's a minion career path?? Better than what I've got here!"

And:

Me: "Why can't you go out on Monday night with us?"
Different Co-Worker (DCW): "I've got to work my second job."
Me: "What is your second job?"
DCW: "Poison Control."
Me: "Why?"
DCW: "It's fun!"

sometimes i.t. irritates me

Dear Corporate I.T.,

Why do you not understand that getting technology into the users hands so they can use it to help meet their business needs and day to day job functions is a necessity? Why does everything have to be a "project" with a "sponsor" when all I freakin' want is a portal that I can use to present to my internal customers all of what they need in one handy location and view? Instead of having to create HTML files that then overlay on top of the document versioning system? And that really only solves a small part of my problem anyway?

I don't have to go through you when I create a Word, Excel, Visio, Powerpoint, etc. document. So why can't you just give me my portal and let me figure out how I want to design it, etc.? It should _just be another tool_ for me to use the way I see fit.

Take your head out of your butts and try to understand how people really work, instead of how you think they should.

Thanks.

yeahhh....riiiiggghhhtt...

"If you're not talking to a known al Qaeda member or a member of an affiliated organization, you don't have to worry about this [wiretapping]". Well, that's not what I'm angry about Scott. I'm angry because as far as I know, these wiretaps _are illegal_. Just because I'm not (although, how would I know?) one of the people being wiretapped, doesn't mean that it's not illegal. Helllooo. And it now appears that there are two lawsuits to resolve it.

So. Cold. Out. 10F. Thanks to sister's crocheted scarf-that-is-the-warmest-in-the-world, I did not freeze so much waiting for the train. I do not know what material she made it with, but I wonder if I can get all my winter clothes made of that material. Must investigate.

so that's how it's going to be

In order to get revenge from when I called him to rub it in about the beautiful ski day in December, mess has done the following since his arrival at his dad's ski house in Telluride: 2 voice mails asking about whether viewing the stars is better from the hot tub or the top of the mountain. And two photos taken from someone's camera cell phone. B*stard. This is not the end of it, mister.

brokeback mountain

There was no pudding eating.

Spoilers in the extended entry....

**SPOILER**

*SPOILER*

SPOILER

I liked it. I think that the hype of the media going on and on about it being a gay cowboy movie does it a disservice.

Is it worthy of an Oscar nomination? Not sure. I mean, it's a good film, but great? There are some gaps in the character building and so you're left with your own imagination (not that that's a bad thing) and there are a few scenes that are like, "huh?". I will say that I agree with Heath Ledger's Golden Globe nomination. He's excellent. As is Jake Gyllenhall.

It's a very understated film, so if you get bored easily, you probably won't like it. There's not a lot of screaming drama, so when there is some drama, it startles you and reminds you that even though they're blissful on their "fishing" trips, there are consequences if they are found out.

contract with america, oh, you saucy wench

Washington Monthly Blog has an interesting post about the Abramoff scandal:

Here are the key points: Today's Republican entanglement with corporate lobbyists like Jack Abramoff is not an accident. It's not a matter of a few bad apples. And it's not something that happened gradually as Republicans got overly accustomed to power and lost their revolutionary zeal. It was a deliberate strategy, conceived by the leaders of the 1994 revolution as part of their fundamental governing strategy, and pursued relentlessly ever since.

I've been known to say republicans definitely are a smart bunch. It looks like it's coming back to bite them in the a**. The thing is, as much as the republicans are involved in this mess, I just cannot believe Howard Dean when he says no democrats took Abramoff money. Anyone have real information?

can my ego get any bigger?

Lately I've gotten a lot of good press at work. Even from a**holes. Like, lots of people talking to my boss about how great I am. Unsolicited. My ego doesn't need to be increased. But I'm wondering if I'll start letting it get to my head and become obnoxious. Then I get the e-mail below, and I laugh and just can't take any of it seriously enough to become an arrogant a**.

I responded to a request someone sent me and they replied with this: (JJ = cluefairy)

"Me - No way

JJ - Way man - like rad

Me - You rock

JJ - NO way - you rock

Me - Are you kidding - you rule

JJ - Okay - I know - isn't it great working with me?

Me - yeah"

i'm surprised it took this long

Watch p*rn on your ipod. However, it appears that I can't get the site to work in either Safari, Firefox or IE on my Mac. Huh.

Course, now when I see someone on the train or T with an ipod, my mind is going to go straight to the sewer (bypass gutter). And hope that they don't have the volume turned up so high I can hear it through their headphones....aiyee!

Update: Interesting article (with sites) in Forbes about this...

no energy

I just can't get all worked up about Alito. When the first vacancy occurred, I basically decided then to let go and deal with the fact that they will be appointing conservatives. We could do worse (Gonzales). And as with every political decision, it seems we have to vote for the lesser of two evils. And unless we uncover some nasty sh*t about the candidates, they're going to be approved by the committee. If you (democrats) are going to just go ahead and approve his nomination in the senate, don't waste my taxpayer time and money with a filibuster. Thanks.

looking for love

According to this woman if you follow her plan, you will find your "dream man" in six months or less (no money back guarantees, natch). Trick? Spend _15_ hours a week devoted to the goal. Good heavens. I guess if you spent 1 hour a day reviewing and answering ads, that would be 7 hours. Then 4 dates a week at 2 hours each. Would you try this concept out? God, could you imagine after 6 months, you still haven't found your dream man how you would feel? I'd feel like sh*t. I do know that.

Potential Dream Man: "So, what are you looking for in a man?"
Focused Searcher: "At this point, I've got 3 days left on my six month plan, so unless you're a convicted felon who likes to rub peanut butter on sheep, how do you feel about meeting my parents later tonight?"
PDM: "Waiter? Check, please."

numbers

Well, apparently, for a fee, you can find out what my incoming and outgoing telephone numbers are for my cell phone and/or land line. Well.

Wonder who Pat Robertson is calling? Or Tom DeLay? And their friends, and so on and so on....I wonder if you could get the list if the number is through a PBX?

Anyway, more information on it in an article from the Chicago Sun-Times. I'm still unclear as to how someone who calls as a "broker" can get _everyone_'s records on a regular basis...

worldcon?

It's a little early, but we're trying to figure out vacation time and money for the year....so, I'm wondering who is going to go to Worldcon this year? And if you are, are you working in any particular department?

I was waffling about going (not because I don't want to see people or anything - but I have GAFIATed quite a bit, yanno?) just due to vacation time and money. But then I got an invite to go down with my sister to the San Diego Sea World and get one on one time with the penguins!! PENGUINS. UP CLOSE. FOR FREE. And it seemed as though a combined see the family/worldcon vacation would be a good time to do this. This has seriously moved the possibility of us going up quite a few notches. The person who is their zookeeper can only allow two of us to go, so don't ask.

So, like....just kinda wondering if people have plans....

new family vacation

"Christmas Eve Day at Disneyland and Going to the Range to Shoot Guns Family Christmas Vacation".

We promise not to combine the two into one day.

Jason (bro-in-law) has a nice gun collection and I haven't been shooting since I was a teenager, so it was fun to get out there again. Not fun enough to go out and buy a gun and start shooting as a regular hobby, but fun enough to celebrate the holidays with the family. Hehe. Except for the bummer of not being able to hook up with Terry, this was one of the best xmas's ever.

phrase i hadn't heard yet

I've of course heard of the term "jumped the shark". But apparently Tom Cruise added to the lexicon this year with "jump the couch" - A defining moment when you know someone has gone off the deep end. Inspired by Tom Cruise's recent behavior on Oprah.

Oh, and Happy New Year. I hope 2006 brings you happiness and success.
