let's see
1 degree F when I left the house this morning.
70 degrees F when I talked to San Antonio co-worker at 10a.m.
Yeah, that'll do nicely. I'll probably be posting a bit while in San Antonio. It's not like I'll be holed up in meetings the whole time I'm down there.

i am jenn's overloaded schedule
For all of you who have ever slept with me... No, wait. For those of you who have been in the same room while I've been asleep, you know I snore. Some of you have even expressed concern that I stop breathing/gasp for breath. Well, tomorrow night I'm going to go do a sleep study. I wonder if I'll even fall asleep cause it's not my usual bed? I'm bringing an eye mask cause I need complete darkness in order to sleep. I can also bring my own pillow. I won't know the results for two weeks. This is going to be weird.
In the meantime, we're trying to cram a month's worth of work in a week because my boss is going to the Amsterdam office for a big training session and we have literally created (with the help of a consultant) all the training content during this time. I worked last weeked. I'll be working this weekend in order to get my regular work done.
I'm also taking two college courses.
And I leave Tuesday morning with a co-worker for our San Antonio office and return Saturday evening. And then the next day is Sunday and our Oscars party. Yikes.
While we are in San Antonio, it's the 170th Anniversary of Santa Anna's siege of The Alamo. That should make for some interesting events. We're staying in a hotel three blocks from the Alamo and one block or so from the riverwalk. Nice. Any recommendations for things to see (the Schliterbahn water park is closed but I've already got plans to visit again in summer!!!)? Restaurants? Cool sh*t?
I think a nice, long, fun and relaxing weekend is in my near future.....

dammit
I managed to make it all day without finding out any Olympic medals. I glanced at the person sitting in a seat on the train and saw who won hold for the 10,000M speed skate. And I actually care about that sport. I have been catching the Ind. Skating and I am almost home..hopefully that won't be ruined. Like for my bud Kristin.

hustle & flow
I've been trying to see some of the films that have Oscar nominations attached to them and just thought I'd post a quick statement about this one.
I'm not sure if I have anything to say than just: Meh. Overhyped. Meh.

one of a kind art car for sale
My friend Daniel and his girlfriend are selling their one of a kind art car. I've seen it in person and it's beautiful, weird and wonderful. Pictures and details are in the post I've linked to.
The car was created in San Jose with a neo/post 1980's low-rider feel to better recapture our high school years. Disco ball and leopard print driving fezzes are included."

wow
So, I've had American Idol on in the background for part of the evening. I just heard this guy Elliott and my lord is he _good_. The two guys who have appeared after him s*ck. I don't know what the other guys sound like or any of the women, but I would love to hear this guy make it - Idol winner or otherwise.

will it really help?
Using automation to control what your kids eat at school.
For? Against?
Couldn't we just teach kids how to eat right by eating right ourselves in our homes? Why not just offer only healthy choices at school? I'm not a parent, so it's easy for me to judge. On the other hand, I can't see this working unless the kids home also has healthy choices, yanno? Otherwise, why bother?

completely forgot
I completely forgot to mention the museum we passed when we were hanging out in Hollywood over xmas. I wanted to stop, nobody else did. Drats.
Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Museum. Put together by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, which is backed by those wacky Scientologists. On the one hand, I'd be fascinated to just go and see what sort of cr*p they espouse and show. On the other, they might try to adminster a personality test. Aiyee!! If anyone goes, lemme know.

cell phone companies
Would you trade great coverage for GSM? better customer service? Better hardware (phones) options? In June our Verizon contract ends. The one thing, in my experience, is Verizon has great coverage. They have crappy hardware, poor customer service and no ability to support GSM. Now that I have my crackberry, I'm using T-Mobile. I have GSM. No idea about customer service. But the coverage? Not so great.
I have no idea regarding pricing of different plans between the companies. And I have no idea what Cingular can offer.
For me, I think what's important (in order of preference): Coverage, pricing, GSM, customer service, hardware.
You?

alien nation
A co-worker had to suddenly leave for her home country, Australia, because her grandfather died. As she started talking about the incredible amount of stupid paperwork and hoops she's going to have to go through to come back into the country, she mentioned a form she has to fill out about some sort of parole for alien...and we started giggling. Alien. Parole.
So, I was looking up various immigration forms and my favorite titles are listed here:
Application to Pay Off or Discharge Alien Crew
Petition for Alien Fiance(e)
Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status
hehehehe

quote of the day
Co-Worker: "Hey, I want to share with you the vendor trip I made yesterday. I love D*ck." (someone walked by just as she said the last sentence)
*blink*
Co-Worker: "Wait, let me change that to I love Richard**. Wow, now that's the quote of the day, isn't it?"
Me: "That was awesome."
*much laughter by both of us*
**Someone we both worked with in the past who does not go by the name Richard, but, well, you know...

da olympics
So, like, Scott Hamilton should be the only person allowed to be an announcer for ice skating. Why? Because he's freakin' genuine. He gets excited when someone gets it right and even manages to be nice when someone gets it wrong. The rest of the announcers? Judgmental, negative and morons. B-bye, plz.

question of the day
At Shakespeare's Sister, they have a question of the day. This one interested me enough that I'm posting here to find out what you would do.
For the record, my answer is: nbh and I go on a trip on Virgin Galactic. Nobody should be surprised.

how geeky
*ring*
Me: hello?
Nbh: hi hon! Blah blah blah
Me: I just realized that I have my cell phone to my ear, my crackberry on my open laptop in front of me on the train and I have just asked you to remember to get my ipod for the gym. If I had a digital camera the scene would be perfect.
Person next to me: *laughter*

why?
Why do I care so much about work? Why can't I just be a slacker type of person? Nobody else cares, so why should I?

all work and no play makes homer something something
I only have my tiny data point, but it seems to me that use of public transportation in Boston has noticeably increased in the past two months. Okay, noticed by me. I used to stand in a certain area on the Natick train platform. Now? It’s packed with people, so I’ve switched to another area. And it’s hard to grab a good seat. And the T seems a little more crowded also. Gas prices go up and people find other methods of transportation. Funny how that works *cough*.
In other boring news, I conducted a design review meeting today and I feel that it went poorly. Hopefully I’ll stop obsessing about it either by the time I sleep or tomorrow. What’s done is done.
I’ve been busy at work again. I need to go to the gym tomorrow, cause I skipped tonight due to.....you guessed it: work.
My busiest project is with our office in San Antonio, an hour behind. So, sometimes meetings are scheduled until 5 or 5:30 my time. This is hard for me, cause I usually like to leave at 4:30 to go catch my train. Today, we worked on requirements until 6:45. Enough. Tomorrow they can deal without me after 4:30 and ask me any questions later. I’m going to the gym, dammit!

what should really happen
What nbcolympics.com should really be doing is instead of "Add to Calendar", it should be "Add to TiVo" (use remote/web scheduling function of TiVo)!!!
Posted by jennj at 04:15 PM | Comments (1)
warning
If you decide to use the "Infuzer" software technology that nbcolympics.com is using to add events to your Outlook calendar, don't do it!! After I installed the software on my Windows machine and added a calendar item, I got a prompt asking me that "A piece of software is trying to access your address book, do you want to allow it? Yes/No" - screen shot for you. Well, not so much.
I've written e-mails to NBC and this Infuzer company telling them I've now removed all of the software from my machine and posted a warning on my blog to share this unsecure and troubling information with my friends.
Update: See extended entry for response from Infuzer. Fast response, which is nice. I have to admit, I'm not happy that I have to install a fix, but at least there is a fix. I still think I'm going to pass on using this.
Jenn,
Please rest assured Infuzer is not trying to access your contacts. What you
are seeing is an alert which is a known issue mostly with Outlook 2003 and
with the most recent service packs. Users are experiencing a security
feature that Microsoft introduced as part of their on-going battle against
viruses.
If you're using Outlook 2003, we now have a patch to fix this issue. Please
go to www.infuzer.com and click on Compatibility to download the patch and
restart your computer.
If this still occurs you can also check your settings within Outlook. In
Outlook go to tools, options, security, security zones.
Setting should be set to "Internet" in drop down box.
Let me know if this helps.
The Infuzer Support Team

It's like looking into the solar corona of hackery, eclipsed only by the lunar body of cluelessness.
It's about the Oscars and Hollywood and...well, just go read it. This guy is worth bookmarking, anyway.

I wish they had Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin (they were the pre-game show, apparently) as the half time show instead of the Rolling Stones.

you have got to be kidding me
Even though the device looked homemade three women went ahead and got tattoo's from a door-to-door tattoo salesman and now are dealing with infections. And one had to be hospitalized. What a bunch of maroons.

work from home and earn $5K a week!
The headline on CNN/MONEY was just too good to resist. "5 Careers: Big demand, big pay". Yeah! What _are_ those careers?! *click on link* *scroll down*
Accounting. Sales and Marketing. Legal. Technology (specifically .NET developers and QA analysts). Manufacturing and Engineering (specifically QA engineers and plant managers).
I guess I'll stick with the current career....

this week sucks
I'm not having a good week at work. It's pretty lame to get all excited and happy when you have to schedule a huge meeting, at the last minute, and you're freaked out because it's prime time for conference room usage and you find the perfect conference room on the first try. It made me _giddy_. I think, on that note, I'm going to head home.
