lost horizons

I'm working from home right now and packing in between breaks and stuff. Anyway, we're going to leave at around 2ish to head out to Shangri-La for a four day weekend with friends. Have a good Fourth!

could i have fried with that?

imood does not have "fried" as an option. But that captures exactly how I feel right now.

This trip has been fun (I love my San Antonio colleagues) but it's also been long and exhausting. And it shouldn't have been. But, a little thing missed here or needing to be changed there...it adds up. We start tomorrow at 7:30 instead of 8:30 so we can be done by 12:30 and I can get my butt to the airport and hopefully make it home before midnight to see my nbh and kitties.

Off to sleep......

why's he calling me meat? i'm the one driving a porsche

I'm not sure who suggested it (mess?) last night, but the three meats (pulled pork, rib, sausage) dinner platter at John Harvard's as an appetizer was an excellent suggestion. Meats.of.evil.

Side note: Raj is sitting on my desk in front of my keyboard and has decided to wash his crotch right now. Ewww. Stop it. Okay, I've distracted him and he has stopped.

Anyway, did you know that there's a "random article" link on wikipedia? I've been sitting here for twenty minutes clicking on it and learnin' random stuff. It's fun.

That is all. Gotta go figure out what I'm packing for yet another trip to the San Antonio office. I leave tomorrow. Ta.

too much wine

Me: "Hey chris, go check out cute overlord!"

Nbh: "I, for one, welcome our cute overlords!"

Me: "Hahahaha! I meant cuteoverload.com!"

p.s. They're bringing back futurama!

Posted by jennj at 08:28 PM | Comments (2)

um..yeah...if you could go ahead and get your desk as far back as possible, that would be great

I've been in my office for a little bit over a year. The person in the office next to me has a sign up saying he's moving tomorrow. That will be the third person to move into and then out of that office. I'm trying not to take it personally.

It appears (thanks donna and nbh) that the kid who jumped off the moving train yesterday made it on a fark.com thread labeled as "dumba**". Sounds about right to me.

Non-blogging husband worked from home today and found a turtle in the yard. Isn't he cute?

poo

Aw man. Poo coffee. "..but what these animals eat they must also digest and eventually excrete.."

right now

I am sitting and stopped on the commuter rail due to a medical emergency.

The conductor came through and just said, "Someone decided to jump off the train. As soon as we find him we can assess the injuries.".

It is the last line that got to me. "Find". Cause I immediately had images of a bloody corpse stuck and mangled under the train. No more horror stories for me...

This is the second medical emergency in a week....

helping the environment

I just found this cool site. It's got tips of the day for how you can do your little part. I went trolling through their tip library and there's some neat stuff.

by the skin of my teeth

I've been knee deep in midterm/catch up on homework h*ll since Wednesday. Never, ever get behind on statistics homework. Just handed in the statistics midterm just in time. We have guests showing up in less than three hours for the 3rd annual peanut press (I miss free e-books) memorial bbq. Whew. For the rest of the day I'm going to forget that I have another class that I've neglected. I'll worry about that tomorrow morning.

It is also non-blogging husband's bday today! Happy birthday NBH! *smoochies*

potential train wreck

Tonight on The Tonight Show, Ann Coulter and George Carlin are guests. *blink* Either Jay Leno is going to be just as stupid as he always is (I don't normally catch his show because of this) and this will just be nothing or Coulter and Carlin will wrestle on stage to the death. I'm gonna TiVo it.

happy

A few years ago I went on an apple picking adventure with friends and tried Empire apples for the first time. They are incredible. I've looked for them at the stores off and on....and tonight, I hit the jackpot! Whole Foods had them. If I wasn't so full from dinner right now, I'd eat one. Mmmm....my mouth is watering just thinking about eating one tomorrow...

particle man particle man

I was trolling through scifi.com and found this: "Who wants to be a superhero?" The show is co-created (and hosted) by Stan Lee. "The winner of this six-week competition will walk away with their character immortalized in a new comic book created by Stan Lee himself. And that's not all — the winning character will also appear in an original SCI FI Channel movie!"

This reminds me of the opening to the MTV movie awards a few years ago when Jack Black co-hosted with Sarah Michelle Gellar and they spoofed Spiderman. "Not gay enough." Here's link to the sequence. It's worth watching, especially if you like Jack Black.

It's probably too late for me to submit my superpowers. Oh well. Beyond being a psychic genius, I'm trying to figure out what other super powers I'd have. Invisibility? Controlling the stock market (nah, that's already being done by the mad money dude)? Politicians can only tell the truth around me? Teleportation?

If you had super powers, what would they be?

*yawn* must drink coffee...

So if you missed it, Jon Stewart slammed Bill Bennett on The Daily Show last week. Here's a link to watch in QT or WMP.

We met up with our friends Paul and Anne Marie in the north end last night and ate at Fiore's. Definitely recommend it. We then went and had gelatto. Mmmm. Nice evening all around.

Oh, and we went and saw Cars Friday night. Not my favorite Pixar, but I still enjoyed it tremendously and I still feel that Pixar can do no wrong.

I still have an all day fest of homework ahead of me. I was pleased with the progress made yesterday, but, I've still got a long way to go, including finishing a paper (and the f*ing sun is out today. grrr.). Later, dudes.

it's the running

It's Jesus Day. Support the downtrodden:

"Think what he's given to the world. Knight Rider. Baywatch. The reunification of East and West Germany. Untold laughter from forwarded e-mails of him in hotpants.

He's given a lot. It's time we gave something back."

mmmmm......bacon!

This post is just random things I want to share with you.

Closed caption TV is funny. A news show on the TV at the gym last night had a segment on the whole gay marriage amendment thing. Lesbian appeared as "Leez bean".

I've got Iron Chef on right now as I do some homework and stuff. The secret ingredient is bacon. *drool* Anything wrapped in bacon tastes good. Bacon wrapped bacon would taste good. Anyway, I saw something that kind of put me over the edge: deep fat fried Irish bacon. Oof.

Here's a fun little timewaster involving refrigerator magnets (oh hey, someone just spelled castration).

Anyone have any 06-06-06 stories to share, cause I sure as h*ll don't.

commuting

Both the downside and upside to taking public transportation is the people. For the most part, it's a great experience and I love the people watching. But then someone comes along and I'm all grossed out. This morning was one of those times. The person sitting in front of me and to the right on the commuter rail had short hair and dandruff, which isn't a big deal. Except they were playing with their short hair like combing their fingers through it. And white flecks were flying everywhere. And I was so grossed out that I had to get up and leave before any fell on me.

i really like kung fu monkey

He writes some interesting essays as to why the electoral college should go away. I especially like how he points out that a picture is worth a thousand words when it comes to the images of red vs. blue state in the media.

This is something that I've thought about over the past few years and think that it might actually be a good thing. But as with anything that deals with amending the Constitution, I get freaked out (It's a serious document to me). Well, except for that whole gay marriage amendment stuff. That just p*sses me off. I mean, seriously, do we really want the definition of marriage is between a man and a woman attached to the _Constitution_? Like it's as important as abolishing slavery or giving women the vote. Jeebus. Er, but that's not what this post is about.

Post 1: "Changing this is going to be a bitch, it'd probably be easier to do on a state-by-state level, as the Constitution empowers the states with the method by which they distribute their electors."

Post 2: "Unfortunately, the Red State/Blue State narrative also happens to be monstrously destructive, culturally. Painting massive swaths of the country one color (be it red or blue), while ignoring the actual number of voters in each state completely distorts the actual political balance in this country -- specifically, how moderate most of the country is."

(cf here: wow, unite us instead of divide us. cool.)

Post 3: "In order to steal an Electoral College election, you only have to queer the count in ONE STATE.

Let's reason together, lefties and righties. Regardless of how you feel about Bush, in 2000 the man who got the most votes in America did not become President.

And you came damn, damn close in 2004 to giving the Presidency to another man who did not win the most votes -- and this was only avoided by the plainly illegal (go ahead and sue me, and enjoy the discovery process, Sparky) actions of Blackwell. I will argue that giving the Presidency to Kerry if he'd won Ohio -- while technically correct -- would have been equally as wrong as how Bush won the presidency in the first place."

I toyed with turning off clue-ments on this one. But I like to know what my friends think. Despite the arguments that seem to ensue. Maybe I'm just looking for a topic that all of you can agree upon (Can we all agree that Finding Nemo is a great movie? ;-). Or maybe it's just that I like the fact that unlike most of the blogs I read, you guys actually aren't "Yes Men". And even if I end up still disagreeing with your viewpoint, it does make me pause and think. Which is always a good thing. p.s. Please play nicely.

i'm warning you

I am asking you now to participate in a new project (well, those that can participate). On my new phone, I discovered that I can record sounds and then assign them as a _ring tone_ to a specific contact. I think it will be fun to have you record your own ring. I reserve the right not to use it (i.e. raspberry noises or profanities will not be used). It all started with assigning my default ring. My first recording was "JennJennJennJennJenn". That was very annoying. So I re-recorded "Jenn! Pick up the phone!" I'm currently thinking of changing it to "Jenn, it's for you!" Nbh has already recorded his. You have been warned.

And in honor of my new phone, at the manicurist's today, I painted the fingernails pink:

Enough silliness. Off to do homework.

hmmm...

How would you turn this into a drinking game? Besides "Every time someone crosses over take a swig".

"Take a swig if someone's shirt gets snagged on the barbed wire. Two swigs if the shirt is torn off."

wheee!

My buddy Kristin is really good at finding cute/cool tech things that make me want them NOW. The latest is a pink razr phone. I'm picking mine up tonight! We're due to renew our cell phone plan (already saved $10 on a new plan that includes more minutes than old plan) and of course, I get a "credit" towards a new phone if I'm interested. I couldn't help myself. I must have pink razr. Especially after seeing hers. Nbh has already upgraded to a razr. He didn't get a pink one tho....
