I haven't really been in the mood to blog much lately, been too busy with other stuff. So, I think for now I'm gonna stop for awhile. Cheers.

stupid spambots
I've had to shut down comments on my anger about the current administration post due to spambots.

i'm not sure i have any anger left in me with regards to this administration
March 21, Tony Snow:
"What we think is possible is that we've come up with what we think is an amicable and respectful way to enable the House and Senate, in their oversight responsibilities, to get access to everything they need to understand fully the process that led to a decision to replace eight U.S. attorneys."
March 22, Tony Snow:
"The executive branch is under no compulsion to testify to Congress, because Congress in fact doesn't have oversight ability."
There's this little thing called checks and balances between the three branches of government, Tony, but apparently you, like the rest of the Bush admninistration, just don't seem to give a sh*t.

chewbacca is a wookie. that don't make no sense.
It just doesn't make sense to me for a sporting goods store to be selling candy in the check-out aisle (or anywhere). Yet, last night at Sports Authority, that's what nbh and I saw. Reese's peanut butter cups, etc. for sale. Anything for a buck, I guess.

prep work
Yup, that went well. Two weekends ago, nbh and I bought a sectional couch. It should be here around the beginning of April. As such, we need to do something with the couch and futon (the big chair will remain in the room). We decided to move the couch into the office and give away our futon (it's now 13 years old, there are some broken pieces in the seat portion that could be fixed maybe not sure...well, it's not something we would sell - anyone want it?). But in order to put the couch in the office some serious cleaning needed to be done. Serious. Like there were stacks of books and crap and such all over the place. So we cleaned it out this weekend - didn't take long, Saturday morning/afternoon. Moved the dining room table over against one wall, put things for donation, garage sale (craigslist), and give away in there. Recycling in the bins/paper bags. Trash in the trash bags. Picked up a few storage containers. And voila! An organized office. For the most part. At this point the only thing left is for us to organize is our desktops. The room looks great and then you look over at our desks and it's a little area of mess (only on top of them, anything that might have been on the floor under or near is gone). But that's okay, cause that can be done this weekend. It feels good and once we have the office finished we'll be tackling the back storage room which really just needs a few things picked up and some storage shelves where we can move the stuff from the dining room to in preparation for selling/giveaway. Once that is done, we'll (nbh doesn't know this yet) tackle the rest of the rooms which will take a shorter amount of time and effort as they aren't as bad as the office.

snow
It is snowing out. A rare thing for us this winter. The snow comes down as fluffy flakes of goodness. I love the way the silence of the snow envelopes the house in a comforting way (that is the only way I know how to describe how I am feeling right now). This makes me happy.
This is a perfect evening to open the Sauvignon Blanc in the fridge, snuggle with nbh and the kitties and watch Casino Royale.

poop dawg, the gangsta' spectre of defeat!
I now have permanent bling. The tooth that has given me so much grief over the past four years now has a gold crown. Long story short, it was given to me for free due to well, the long story. Yo, bitchez.

conversation
e-mail exchange amongst friends:
Me: Brad Pitt is so hot.
AS: I want to go for a ride with him around LA on his motorcycle. Then I can die.
YF: Oh yeah. This conversation can go downhill from "ride"...

new york and new jersey
I took the train down to Penn Station early Friday afternoon to meet up with Elke. My final destination was her pad in Morristown, NJ, but we decided to meet up in NYC so we could get together with friends for dinner.
Jen, Devo, Elke, Iwan, Deb and I had dinner at burgers and cupcakes. The burger was good, the cupcake I had was so-so. It was chocolate with vanilla frosting filling. We then proceeded to walk over to 26th street and ended up atTillman's. After I had a bellini, Iwan and I ordered vesper's. You have to like gin if you're going to even remotely like a vesper. I liked it.
Anyway, Elke and I left the city around 10:30. We spent Saturday working on the real reason for my visit: help me write documentation for work-life credit for college. Elke is a great writer and while it's not like I couldn't have sent her my Word files and she used her editing skills remotely, I figured it would be better for me focus-wise if Elke and I were in the same room otherwise I would have continued my behavior of sitting down to write and oh, look, bright, shiny objects. And Elke was gracious enough to humor me. Sides, then we got to visit with each other.
It was a nice Saturday and after we had finished up the work it was time to play. We went to Barnes & Noble and Elke picked up a new French & Saunders DVD. We ate takeout from Penang and watched the DVD. I love Jennifer Saunders. I want to be like her.
Anyway, got up Sunday morning, went and had diner food and then Elke dropped me off at the Newark Amtrak station and I headed home. Nbh and I then went and saw 300 at the premium cinema. It was a good weekend.

using biodiesel? watch out
Arrrgggh.....
Not only does the Illinois department of revenue want an elderly couple to pay a fuel tax (retroactive) on the biodiesel they have been creating from vegetable oil they get from a local restaurant but they also apparently consider them to be "fuel suppliers" and therefore must have the appropriate license to act as such.
Just read the whole stupid thing here.

a new low in teleconference etiquette
I thought I had experienced an all-time low on teleconference etiquette when someone belched loudly. But no.....
Someone today didn't have themselves on mute while calling remotely and we got to hear them pee. There was stunned silence and then a lot of stifled giggling that took about a good minute to end before all of us could resume the meeting.
I think at this point, the only lower point we could go is someone farting.

awesome music video
Nbh and I were watching high def music videos this morning and came across an awesome one. I don't know how long it'll be on YouTube, but if you can check out the video for a cover of Land of Confusion by a band called Disturbed. Wow. I also like their cover....

is this what normal people experience?
It'll be a year this April that I started using the cpap. This morning I got up around 7:15. I didn't sleep in. And I was fairly alert after about ten minutes of puttering around the house. B.C. (Before Cpap) it used to be that it'd take a good hour for me to truly feel awake after getting out of bed. It used to be a struggle to get out of bed. Now, I'm not saying this has been perfect as I can get into a depressive state with the bipolar and end up wanting to sleep all the time. But man is this awesome. Holy shit. Is this what it's supposed to be like? Cause I gotta tell you, this is the best I've felt in ages.
Preachy mode on: If you have been told that you stop breathing while you sleep, please go get a sleep study done. You may want to talk to your doctor even if you've never been told that you stop breathing while sleeping but you are a loud snorer (not all snorers have sleep apnea, but many people who have sleep apnea are snorers).
Sure, you've gone to look at webmd and read the symptoms and you're probably like, "Well, _I_ don't fall asleep at the wheel. Or _I_ don't need to take a nap in the afternoon. _I_ don't have most of those symptoms." Well, neither did I. I snored and people said I stopped breathing. Guess what? That's enough, don't you think? Yeah, It took me a few months to get the nerve to ask my primary care to refer me to a sleep study. But once I did, I was able to schedule it for a Friday night and I was fortunate that it was at a hospital five minutes from my house. It wasn't the most pleasant experience, mind you. But this has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Ever.
Oh, and btw, you may eat right and exercise but if you have sleep apnea it directly affects cardiovascular health (read this) and use of a cpap will improve things. With a simple device you could improve your cardiovascular health. My cholesterol has dropped. Other people (not me) have experienced weight loss. _I don't snore anymore_. I am even pursuing surgery options that could reduce the snoring and apnea to where I may not have to use the machine all the time (I'll probably have the surgery later this year). How cool is that?
Your loved one may be all like, "Oh, the snoring doesn't affect me." Two days after I started using the cpap, nbh turned to me and said, "I am sleeping so much better. I used to think that your snoring didn't affect me, but I was wrong." Nbh - am I right, or am I right?
Sure, are there nights where I wish I could just fall into bed and go to sleep without taking a moment to put the damn thing on? Yes. Is it a pain in the ass to travel with? Actually, except for one incident with a TSA agent at Logan (assholes), I've flown about seven times in the past year and it's been a great experience. I know that after reading some bulletin boards there are some people who have had issues with cpap adoption in their lives. So no guarantee from me that you'll have such a positive experience adapting to the cpap. I gotta tell ya, tho, I went into it accepting the fact that this will be something I use for the rest of my life and I researched and cried cause these things aren't beautiful and talked and ...well, all the things you should do in order to move on (I followed a "grieving" process - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance). And I think because I went in with that attitude that's why I've had a positive experience. I've even been able to share a room with friends/family and wear the cpap. At first I was nervous and such, but since most of these people were people who shared rooms with me B.C. and experienced my snoring/stop breathing thing were in awe at how much better it was sharing a room with me that it didn't matter what I looked like with the device on. Hehe.
Every day that I wake up with so much less fogginess and every day that I sleep the whole night through, I marvel at what a joy it is to be functioning on a higher level. Best. Decision. Ever. If you decide to explore if you have sleep apnea or not, I'm here for ya. Preachy mode off.
