i'm a mean person
CoWorker: "I really wish X would get his head out of the sand and recognize his department is crashing and burning. He's so totally in denial and unaware."
Me: "Dude, his head isn't in the sand, it's in the mantle of the planet."

new playlist?
When the song “Harder to Breathe” by Maroon 5 played on my ipod while jogging on the treadmill at the gym this morning, I realized just how true it was at that moment. I thought it was high-larious. And then I proceeded to amuse myself for a few minutes thinking of other songs that would be on a “jogging” playlist. I finally stopped thinking about it when I realized I came up with only five songs and was just repeating them in my head over and over again to get more inspiration. Which then made me realize that while my body could handle regulating my heartbeat, breathing and putting one foot in front of the other at the same time it was apparent it couldn’t do that AND creative thinking. Sad.
My songs? Harder to Breathe, Born to Run, Walk like an Egyption, Running on Empty and Every Breath You Take.

pinch me
I decided I was going to be damned if I wasn't going to see Transformers as early as possible. Especially since people in the Kung Fu Monkey comments started saying it was great (I had to stop reading the comments). So. Guess what? They're freakin' showing it at the PREMIUM CINEMA. Which means ASSIGNED SEATS.
And you know what I got? I GOT OUR TWO FAVORITE SEATS FOR MONDAY NIGHT, 8p.m.
I had the guy repeat it for me twice. He had to reassure me of the seat assignments and that they'd just charged my credit card.
Giddy, I tell you, GIDDY.

why i'm going to go see transformers even though it's a michael bay film
Michael Bay dislike:
1. Armageddon. 'Nuff said.
2. He always has a scene where character(s) are standing looking up at the sky or "posing dramatically" and then the camera circles around them for minutes on end (typically it involves the camera panning out so that you can see the surrounding terrain/ship/Alcatraz and it's obviously a helicopter flying around in circles filming). For some reason, this annoys me and a number of times my attention span wavers because it seems like an eternity that the action has stopped in order to do this shot and I get bored and then when the action picks up again it takes a few minutes to get back in the mood. Although, The Island I never was able to get back in the mood. Which is a shame, cause that movie started out So Well.
Transformers love:
1. KFM is one of the screenwriters.
2. The effects look freakin' awesome (jeebus, I watch the movie trailer over and over again just to see the transformations. And really, rollerblading transformers, how awesome is that?)
3. Josh Duhamel, Anthony Anderson & John Turturro

so many movie choices
I cannot remember the last time there were four (and in four days, five) movies out in the theatres that I really, really want to see and am excited about. I mean, seriously, it's been awhile. Years. I'd been beginning to think that my reign as Movie Czarina was coming to an end.
I want to see 1408, Ratatouille, Live Free or Die Hard and Sicko. And starting next Tuesday, add Transformers. This girl is practically giddy.
Since none of the movies I'm interested in seeing are at the premium cinema (bastards) we've got to deal with huge crowds and non-assigned seating (I'm spoiled). Bummer.
Anyway, this should be fun and all of these movies are getting fresh ratings on rotten tomatoes. Suh-weet.

Yippee Kay Yay
The iphone and Live Free or Die Hard premiere on Friday.
Just thought I'd point it out. John McClane and Steve Jobs save the planet with brute force, technology and wit?

i do not have a problem
I bought yet another laptop bag only about a year ago. Yes, I have more than one bag I can use to carry a laptop. I found myself searching around for a new one yesterday. Nbh accused me of a fetish. I told him I was just wandering around the internet looking at laptop bags, I wasn't going to _buy_ one (cough, maybe). this one is expensive, but man it's cute and professional enough to use for work. However, I think I may have found the _coolest_ laptop bag in the universe:
Front flap features a piece of ISS Soyuz TMA-3 landing parachute.

uh, yeah
A month and a half later and I finally get in to see the dermatologist about the red on my face.
Doc: You've got perioral dermatitis.
Me: Glad to have a diagnosis. Do you have anything that will make it go away? I'll even take drugs if I have to.
Doc:
Me: What causes it?
Doc: Stress.
I laughed and laughed. Some might say my response was manic. Work is a huge stressor in my life right now. The redness started while I was in San Antonio for 10 days.
Somehow this all makes sense to me.

technology is hard ("math is hard" - simpsons)
I'm working from home today. I get an e-mail from a co-worker:
COW: Can I call you at 8:30?
Me: How about 5 minutes after 8:30 and use my blackberry number xxx-xxx-xxxx.
8:45 rolls around. Still no call. Wondering about COW. Then I get the following e-mail:
COW: I've been trying to call you but you're not answering.
Me: Oh. I just figured it out. I've had it on quiet mode cause I was in a meeting late yesterday afternoon. I forgot to change it back. Try again.
Oops.

mmm...pizza
It's not fair to have the pizza delivery guy show up at the gym as one is entering it to start their workout. First of all, it just seems wrong to have pizza at the gym. And second of all, it freakin' smelled awesome and I had to resist the urge to not exercise and go home and have dinner. I vanquished you this time, pizza delivery man!

consider the source
"On the June 17 edition of the NBC-syndicated Chris Matthews Show, host Chris Matthews, leading off the discussion topic "What are Americans looking for in their next first lady?" asked "The Matthews meter" -- composed of 12 of his regular panelists, including June 17 panelists BBC Washington correspondent Katty Kay, Newsweek chief political correspondent Howard Fineman, and MSNBC host Tucker Carlson -- "Do Americans want to return to the Hillary model of first lady, or do they like the Laura Bush model?" All 12 panelists responded that Americans want "the Laura Bush model." Link here.
Kiss my a**, panelists. You're not speaking for this American.

micro lending
It appears that ordinary people like you and me can also micro lend. Check out kiva.org:
"Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence."
Gotta talk to nbh when he gets home.
It just amazes me that such a little amount to me can be a business loan. Wow.
UPDATE: I might have to get myself a "seriously, unspeakably awesome" shirts....
And I see the founder of kiva.org worked at TiVo. No wonder why the site is easy to navigate.....

soda
I can only hope that the Pepsi Ice Cucumber flavored soda tastes a heck of a lot better than the water chestnut soda the gang and I tried while in Hong Kong. Never, ever try water chestnut soda. Chunky.
(for those that don't know, i always visit grocery stores when in foreign countries. you find the weirdest stuff)

training for the 5k
The training for the 5k is going well. Yes, I am doing it.
I took the "couch to 5k" training program and modified it for my needs. Since I wasn't _really_ going from the couch to a 5k (I'm more fit than that!), I decided what I would do is instead of only doing the steps for Week 1 three times a week I would move on to the next week every three days. So, I go to the gym 5-6 times a week. The first three days I go to the gym that week I do the three days for Week 1. The fourth day I go, I do Day 1 of Week 2. And so on. This is working well. Today I start Day 1 of Week 5 which means that I'll probably start Week 6 on Monday or Tuesday. I won't be going to the gym tomorrow, so Day 2 will be Saturday.
I figure if all goes well I should be running the total distance by mid July. Which then gives me two months to keep it up and try out running on the real roads/trails at least once a week.

transformers merchandise
While it's a Michael Bay film, I'm still going to go see Transformers. One of the writers is KFM and since I really like his blogging, I'm down with it.
Anyway, saw this and thought I'd share. Mr. Potato Head as Optimash Prime. *giggle*

i wonder what the neighbors think
What do you get when you cross an old Scottish castle and graffiti? This:
From The Graffiti Project: "take the vibrant and often transient art form of Brazilian graffiti out of its predominantly urban context and apply it to the ancient and permanent walls of an historic rural castle in Scotland."

dreams....
I had a dream last night with John Cusack in it. Just as he and I were going to get it on (this was after some bizarre stuff involving him sitting in a car on the lawn playing a guitar), I reached over to the fireplace mantle to grab my wedding bands and then I woke up.
Apparently I can't cheat on my husband in my dreams if it's John Cusack. Bummer. No, I'm not going to tell you who I've successfully cheated with in my dreams.....

back from nyc
I was down in NYC because Elke had found out at the end of April she could not attend "Curtains" due to a business trip and so Bridget asked if I wanted to go in her stead.
It was a fun time. "Curtains" with David Hyde Pierce and Debra Monk is good (not great). Although, Debra Monk definitely was the best performance. We had excellent seats, too.
It was great seeing Iwan, Deb, Devo, Jen and Jeff, but too, too short. We hooked up with Iwan for a few hours after arriving in NY Friday afternoon. Thanks for offering us an opportunity to pet your watermelon. And I loved Dive 75. Awesome hangout.
Had dinner at the West Bank Cafe, HIGHLY recommended. Saw the show. Iwan met up with us for dessert afterwards. Then crashed at Devo and Jen's. Went to breakfast with Devo and Jeff at the Popover Cafe (yummy). Hung out at Devo and Jen's until Elke was out of French class. Then headed out to Elke's in Morristown. We went to a pan-Asian restaurant that just opened up in her neighborhood and not only was the food freakin' excellent our waiter was hawt. Yeah, nice evening if I do say so myself.
Got up early Sunday morning, had breakfast at a great place near Elke's and then headed on back to Boston.
Nbh and I will be planning on going down there sometime in the next few months so that a) one of my trips to NYC involves nbh going and b) we can try to arrange more time to spend with people.
