i'd never thought of using the help desk this way
I'm irritated at our corporate IT help desk right now and the support (or lack thereof) I've received regarding my blackberry and using it internationally. I leave Monday night and at this point I don't know if my problem has been solved so I am punting and hoping for the best upon arrival. After searching on the corporate intranet for a contact to complain to and not having any luck, I decided there was only one option left to me. Open a help desk ticket and put my complaint in there. Hehe.
(p.s. What truly irritates me is that I'm a good corporate citizen who called in PLENTY of time before my trip to get this worked out)

subprime huh?
Does anyone know where I can find a good, simple, sane explanation of this whole subprime mortgage stuff? I read some things and I think, "I don't want my taxpayer money to bail these people out" and then I read others and I'm like, "These people got screwed." Thanks.

can't call it a "dog run" anymore
You know, I've always kinda thought that owning dogs and having children (especially under the age of 5) are similar. They need constant attention. You have to pay attention to their toilet habits. Some people now put leashes on their kids. And now they're letting kids go to the bathroom in their yards, just like letting the dog out.
*blink* Third world countries do this because they are third world countries. I don't understand why they can't use cloth diapers in order to address the landfill problem. Yes, cloth diapers would use water to clean, but come on, that seems like a fair trade- off in order to prevent our kids from using the yard as a toilet.
I guess it's time to change the fines for people who don't scoop their dogs poop up to include children.
While we're at it, maybe we should put muzzles on children. Actually, I like this trend of treating children like dogs. Please, please take your children to dog obedience school! And crate train them too! This is fantastic.

vacation deficiency
You know how when you've been hungry for awhile when you finally get food you pig out? Okay, maybe that doesn't happen to you, but I know I've done it.
I think nbh and I did that with regards to vacation time last weekend. We haven't taken any vacation this year, just a day here or there. This last weekend? We booked our hotel room for Paris vacation in two and a half weeks. We bought plane tickets to Ohio for the entire week of Thanksgiving (sat-sat). We bought plane tickets to L.A. for xmas for a week stay. And we have three weeks off starting mid-February next year to go to Australia and New Zealand.
I feel sated.

stereotype
Our friends are interested in buying my old Honda Civic. Last Thursday they came by and picked it up to test drive for a few days and they left their old skool Prius with us. You all missed me driving around with a kid car seat. *snort* Me. With a kid car seat.
Anyway, today we went over to get our old car back. As we were leaving the driveway (I was driving), the friend of their 7 year-old said very loudly, "Why is the wife driving?"
That. Sh*t. Is. Funny.

that took awhile
Apparently Amsterdam is hosting the largest conference they've ever had the same time we're there. Everything is booked. Even hotels at the airport. The only way we could have stayed in Amsterdam is the first three nights at a Radisson and then the last five nights at the intercontinental for 1300EU per night. Uh, no. So then I had the travel agent look at hotels in Naarden (where our office really is). Nothing. Basically anything within a 30km radius is not available.
So we are staying in Utrecht and I will be driving 20-30 minutes to work each day. I'm actually OK with this because Utrecht is a nice town and I like driving in foreign countries. And the kicker? I actually found the room in Utrecht and notified the travel agent it's available. Yeesh.
I can't wait to go!

finally
The dates are now set for the Amsterdam/Paris trip. We will leave the evening of Sept. 3 for Amsterdam. Work until the morning of the 11th and then train down to Paris for vacation goodness. We will return on the 16th. I'm so excited nbh is coming for the entire time (he gets to work remotely)! We get a full weekend in Amsterdam and then 5 days in Paris. And this time I _will_ make it to Chateau de Versailles.
This does mean, however, that I will not be participating in the 5k. I do not view the training I've been doing as a waste and will continue to jog. And there will be other 5k's....

you know you're the only geek in the room when...
Co-Worker: "Hey, that reminds me, I was talking to X about this very same subject and she was mentioning that she knew someone who was a big wig within MS who did that."
Me: "Who at Microsoft is it?"
Co-Worker: *laughs* "Multiple Sclerosis, Jenn."
Me: "Are we surprised I went there?"
Co-Worker: "No."

We just saw this commercial and who the hell thought this one up? *shudder*
Nbh: "Wait. There's no women in the commercial. Who are they taking the viagra for?"
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

same old song
"The Bush administration as well as supporters and some critics of the Bush Iraq strategy have told Americans time and again during the past four years that the "next few months" in Iraq will be the "decisive, critical period" of the war.......*snip* *snip*.....The timeline below catalogues the broken record we've been hearing from our leaders."
Iraq Timeline: The Broken Record on "the Next Few Months"
Too bad it doesn't show some of the more important news stories going on at the time....especially where there are clusters of comments, I can't help but wonder what else was going on. And I'm too lazy to actually look that shit up.

would you...?
If you had to send out an e-mail to a group of people and there's a Senior VP on the list would you keep the following in your e-signature?
"Go SPURS Go!"
"Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can hear the flutter of their wings."
"SPURS, NBA Champions!"
I know my answer: No. (Course, you'd never see the angeles quote in my e-mail regardless of distribution list)
Yes. Someone did this.

i hate our elected officials
I just read someone's argument to NOT impeach Bush because "history will judge this as the most corrupt, etc. administration ever".
Okay, you know what? I won't be around when that happens. And who the hell listens to history anyway? Imagine 100 years from now. There's a decision to invade some country in the middle east. Historians point out an analogy to the Iraq War, don't you remember the Bush Administration's stupidity, etc.? And nobody will listen and the leaders will invade anyway.
Since nobody listens to the historians I think it's lame to use "history will judge" as a reason to not impeach Bush (and Cheney).
