you know what i hate?
I hate when a television channel calls itself HD and instead of showing HD, they freakin' stretch out the video to "fit" the screen. I'm talking about you, TNTHD.

we see movies
WALL-E and Wanted behind the cut.
WALL-E is wonderful. But I love Pixar and they can do no wrong, so I'm totally biased. He's so freakin' cute. I want to see it again. They did a great job of physical storytelling (very little dialogue in this movie) using animated robots for god's sake. Animated robots. I laughed, cried..... And Peter Gabriel's song at the end is really good. Listening to it now.....
And now for something completely different. Saw Wanted. Oh yeah, that RAWKED. Best use of a keyboard in a movie EVER. If you're in the mood for an action flick, go.

rep. james fagan, you're a douchebag
“I’m going to rip them apart, make sure that the rest of their life is ruined . . . when they’re 8 years old they throw up; when they’re 12 years old, they won’t sleep; when they’re 19 years old, they’ll have nightmares and they’ll never have a relationship with anybody.” Then he snarled, “And that’s not because I’m a nice guy.”

blood is thicker than water, but then so is crankcase oil
While listening to the radio this morning they mentioned Joan and Melissa Rivers were going to be on cause of their appearance on an upcoming "Celebrity" Family Feud. And I thought, "Wonder if Joan's plastic surgeon is considered a family member at this point?"

otto is not very smart *sigh*
We have a cat door in a closet attached to the upstairs bathroom. Otto usually stares at it when Raj goes in and out. I guess Otto finally figured out how to get in. Twice we have found him sitting inside the closet, staring at the door, trying to figure out how to get out. Each time we've had to help him get out.

duh
Of course I'm going to watch Firefly while I'm recovering. It's a moral imperative.

i find this kind of disturbing
I was looking online for some non-latex dishwashing gloves and ran across these. "Seen on Desperate Housewives". The perfect gift for the hostess with the mostest?

lego...food?
Update: I wandered over to their "new products" and was appalled to see "Whole Grain" Pop Tarts. Really?

sleep apnea and surgery, who knew?
I love the internets. Did you know that if you have obstructive sleep apnea that there are risks with use of anesthesia and postoperative pain relievers? I didn't. I'm now better prepared to talk to my anesthesiologist to minimize the risks.
I can't help but think that the weight loss over the past year was meant to be. I had a sleep study in March and with the 16% of my body weight loss, I reduced my hypo apnea index from 122 to 59.6. Cut in half. Woot. I'm still extremely severe (anything above 30). I'm so glad I lost the weight. With the reduced index, I feel much more confident going into surgery. Yeah, I'm still freaked out, but at least the doctors will know to watch me carefully.

hillary supporters for mccain
Here's the full video clip and the following appears halfway through that I find hysterical:
Scene: Two women on cnn. ""The amount of sexism that came out during the course of this campaign was completely unacceptable. And we feel that we want to make a statement and we are going to support John McCain."
Cut to Jon Stewart: "Wow! So McCain has the blind, spite vote locked up. Because of sexism, we’re going to go with the [beep] patriarch.”
The irony.

not my first thought
So, I looked on our intranet to determine how to apply for short-term disability for my surgery. In big font "Apply for STD" right there on the homepage...... I was giggling most of the morning.

the happening
We went to The Happening last night. Thoughts in the extended entry. We're going to see Hulk this afternoon.
It was great until the ending. Then it blew chunks. I won't want to own this on DVD. When Marky Mark and Zooey started walking towards each other in the field, supposedly exposing themselves to "The Happening", I was done.
I think Mess summed it up nicely: "It was great until the Michael Crichton ending."
Yeah.

people are assholes, part gazillion in a never ending series
A friend of mine just got a job offer rescinded because someone gave her a bad referral. When someone asks you if you'll be a referral and you can't be bothered to give a good one then fracking say "No". I've said no plenty of times. Yes it's awkward for a few minutes, but everyone is better off. I'm upset for my friend.

obama versus mccain
Take a look at the first chart. Since he clinched the nomination there's an obvious increase in the gap of Obama versus McCain in the voting population and it's in obama's favor......nice. Okay, Obama, now put some substance behind your policy statements.

poll
For or Against?
Would you send one to a friend whose father has just died? I think I'm against. Not that I don't like fruit and they don't look yummy. They just seem like something you'd give a corporate client, not a friend or family member. (although the hello kitty one looks adorable)

it's nice being in san francisco again....
Got in around noon on Sunday and spent the afternoon with Poz, Puck and Kat wandering around Fisherman's Wharf. Good fun. Tomorrow I'm getting together with some other friends. And the past few days have been spent at a vendor. Whee. I have managed to get out and about and shopped a bit as I'm down by Union Square. The weather, while cold, has been sunny and the vendor we are visiting has an incredible view of the golden gate bridge and alcatraz.
I have to come back for a conference at the end of October and I'm thinking maybe nbh will have to join me....
Life is good. Nothing else to report.
