now that the initial shock has worn off

Now that I've gone beyond, "Who?" and "Wow, a female?" it's apparent that McCain is insane.

trying to appreciate

I seem to have not taken a moment to appreciate what is happening lately. Put your party affiliation aside. Take a moment. Appreciate the history that is being made right now. Today. We have the first ever African American presidential nominee and the now the second female vice president nominee. No matter who wins we will have an unconventional pairing in the white house for the next four years. That's pretty cool.

touche, mccain, touche

So McCain picked a female for his veep. I have to say, I'm impressed he had the balls to do it. I was saying yesterday that people should not rule McCain out, he could still win. Somehow people have already forgotten that Bush sucks and McCain is just more of the same. And with all the Hillary supporters whining and saying they'd either stay home or vote for McCain, maybe they were more serious than I thought, cause apparently McCain is taking them seriously. This is almost like McCain saying, "Put your money where your mouth is. I dare ya."

This is going to be interesting.

cows face north...

haha.

"Magnetic alignment in grazing and resting cattle and deer":

"We demonstrate by means of simple, noninvasive methods (analysis of satellite images, field observations, and measuring “deer beds” in snow) that domestic cattle (n = 8,510 in 308 pastures) across the globe, and grazing and resting red and roe deer (n = 2,974 at 241 localities), align their body axes in roughly a north–south direction."

Annals of Improbable Research, where art thou?

Dear Verizon FiOS management,

You are morons.

A*holes.

Sincerely,

nbh cracks me up

Me: "I'm on a wait list for a basic beading course."
Nbh: "You know that beading is a gateway craft to scrapbooking, right?"

hahahaha. Nbh knows how I feel about scrapbooking which makes this even funnier.

the olympics

Human rights violations are bad. But I'm not going to sit here and fool myself that I own nothing that is made in China. I use Google, MS products, etc. and those companies have a presence in China. Heck, I work for a company that has a presence in China. Like it or not, China is a part of our daily lives. Now, do I agree with how we're trying to work with them? We can do better. Do I still think that they have a long way to go with regards to human rights? Yes. But unless I'm willing to completely make sure that everything I own or use is not made in China or has a presence in China, I can't claim that I'm doing good by not watching the Olympics. I don't think that's very honest of me. Maybe I could protest if I made sure that I was making the most reasonable and best effort to not buy Chinese (do I really stop using MS products? quit my job? That's unreasonable). But I'm not that great at checking for the "Made in China" sticker. I should be. But I'm not going to pretend that I am.

So I'm watching the Olympics.

From Firefly:
[standing over his wounded opponent, refusing to kill him]
Mal: You know, they say mercy is the mark of a great man.
[stabs the man]
Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.
[stabs him again]
Mal: Well, I'm all right.

cake wrecks....

This site is dedicated to poor cake design. It's like the museum of bad art for cakes. The foot cake is particularly disturbing.
