a little insight as to why i am enjoying twitter
I've been using Twitter for awhile now. One of the things I like about it is that there are famous people that I admire using it. You quickly learn which ones are fake (I really enjoy the fake michael bay twitter feed) and which ones are real (e.g. they actually post a twitpic of themselves). And the thing is, a mere mortal such as myself can actually send them a quick response to their tweets and sometimes I get a response back. And that's pretty fun and neat. I think this guy's story is a good example of what I'm talking about:
Two guys read Shaq's twitter feed and decide to see if he's truly where he says he is. When I started reading it, I was thinking, "yeah, right, this guy is full of it." And then I got to the pictures. Holy shit, that really proves that it's the real Shaq tweeting (his spelling is atrocious).
And folks, Shaq is having _fun_ tweeting. I went to his twitter feed and saw that he continued his fun with his fans with: "I'm at the fashion sq mall, any1 touches me gets 2 tickets, tag me and say yur twit u hv 20 min". That cracks me the shit up and I'm going to start following him.
Anyway, if you want to follow my twitter feed, I'm sure you can guess what it is so I don't need to mention it.

the gym
Have you ever gone to the gym, ended up opening locker doors like eight or ten times because they are full because people don't bother putting a lock on the door so you can "tell" if it's in use or not? Sometimes when that happens I want to mix people's stuff up with others. Anyone else ever experience this and have the same reaction? Or is it just me?

for a good cause
I just read a good friend's LJ in which they wrote about a friend who is dying of cancer, specifically Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Which reminded me of:
A good friend of mine is running in the Marathon Des Sables for charity. The charity is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Over the years Iwan has participated in many athletic competitions (three Ironmen!) to raise money for this organization, and now he's doing this. Did you read the description? Let me distill it for you, from Iwan's web page: "..a 6 stage, 7-day running race, covering over 150 miles through the Sahara."
Yeah, the guy is a little crazy. But obviously in a good way. Maybe.
So if you could see your way to donating to his cause, it would be much appreciated and help to fight cancer. I know things are tough in these economic times, but even being able to donate a little helps.

oscars
So, I have an Oscars party each year, very small group of folks come over.
Anyway, I've been reading how they're trying to reinvent the Oscars due to low audience ratings over the past few years. I think choosing Hugh Jackman as host is a great idea. I know I'm looking forward to it. He can just stand there and smile and I'd watch. But apparently there's some other stuff they are going to do, and one of them really has me confused. See, they decided that the nominated songs would only get 65 seconds each as part of a medley. Right. Gabriel has declined because he doesn't feel it would do it justice (not that I think he should be allowed to sing all six minutes, mind you). So, let me get this straight, you want to up the audience ratings and you have an opportunity for Peter Gabriel to sing and you mess it up? People loved it when Bruce Springsteen sang "Streets of Philadelphia" all those many years ago. They like to see the artists perform. WTF? Course, I also hate, hate medleys, so that makes me crankier. And if they have some dumbass opening number that uses up time that could have been given to Gabriel, that'll definitely be irritating.
Anyway, I'll be tuning in, but seriously, Academy, are you high? Two big draws and you throw one of them away. *shakes head*

g*netic testing
I've been toying with sending in some spit for g*netic testing just because I'm curious. I'm not worried about any of this. I don't think I'd act on the information cause I already know that I'm at risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiac problems, cause my family is high risk for that. Cancer? What can you do to prevent that? Nothing. And since there's legislation that has been signed into law regarding g*netic information and discrimination when it comes to employers and health insurance companies, it seems like a safer thing to do from that perspective. Anyway, we'll see.

curse you, michael bay
I've written about this before. I have love/hate feelings towards Michael Bay as a director. Way back when, I really enjoyed The Rock (I have not seen Bad Boys). But then....well, he did Armageddon. And that's when the hate started. I avoided his films after that. I swore him off. The Island came out, and having a weakness for science fiction, well, it was showing on TV and I decided to cave. And wished I hadn't. So I swore him off again. But then I saw ads for Transformers. And dammit, the CGI for the transformations looked cool. So, when it was released in theaters, on the big screen, I checked my brain out at the door and went to see it. And god help me, I had mindless (and I mean mindless) fun. And now? I love to watch that movie. Flipping the channels and it's on hi def HBO? I'll stop and watch it. I own the DVD. And I love Michael Bay for it. I am even amused by his website that has the tag line "Shoot for the edit" - which completely explains his directorial style. And his Verizon FIOS ad? Priceless. And so now? I can't wait for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to come out. If he directs another Pearl Harbor-like movie, I won't go see it. But transforming robots? F* yeah. Curse you, Michael Bay!!!
